Multiple Etsy shops: what Etsy allows and how to keep them apart

Can you have multiple Etsy shops? What Etsy's Help Center and Seller Policy say, how to open a second shop, switch between shops and give helpers access.

Yes, you can run multiple Etsy shops. Etsy says so in its own Help Center, with three conditions: each shop needs its own Etsy account, each account needs its own email address, and you must list all your shops in the Public Profile of each account. What Etsy forbids is using extra shops to shill, manipulate search or get around its policies, and it may act against related accounts when one breaks the rules.

In short: Etsy allows multiple shops: one Etsy account and one email per shop, every shop listed in each account's Public Profile, and all of them following the Seller Policy. Duplicate shops for gaming search or getting around a suspension are banned, and Etsy may act on related accounts. Give helpers Etsy's shared access instead of your password.

This guide sets out what Etsy's Help Center and Seller Policy actually say, how to open a second shop, how to switch between shops without signing out all day, and how to give helpers access through Etsy's new shared access feature. Every rule below links to Etsy's own page, checked on 25 October 2026. Etsy updates these pages often, so follow the links for the current text.

Can you have more than one Etsy shop?

Yes. Etsy's article How to Open a Second Shop on Etsy says: "You're welcome to run multiple shops at once on Etsy."

The same article lists what you need:

  • "A separate Etsy account for each shop"
  • "A separate email address on file with each account"

It adds two obligations. You "must list all the shops you run in the Public Profile section of each account", and each account "must also comply with Etsy's Seller Policy". The reason for separate accounts is technical as much as anything: "each Etsy account can only have one shop and one email address at a time."

So the honest version of multiple Etsy shops is simple. Each shop is a real shop, each sits on its own account, and anyone looking at your profile can see that the shops belong together.

What does Etsy's Seller Policy say about multiple shops?

The Seller Policy (last updated 5 October 2026) doesn't ban multiple shops. It bans duplicate shops used to cheat, and it lets Etsy act on related accounts.

Two passages matter:

  • Section 1c, "Managing your Etsy Shop": sellers must "Not create duplicate shops or take any other action (such as manipulating clicks, carts or sales) for the purpose of shilling, manipulating search or circumventing Etsy's policies."
  • Section 3d, "Your Seller Account and Etsy's Terms": "If Etsy has reason to believe you, Your Content, or your use of the Services violate our Terms", Etsy may suspend or terminate your account "(and any accounts Etsy determines are related to your account)".

Read together: a jewelry shop and a separate vintage shop, both listed on your profile, is normal. A copy of your best-selling shop to take up more search results, a second shop that buys from the first to push its rankings, or a new shop to keep selling after a suspension is exactly what the policy describes. And if one of your shops breaks the rules, the others are not insulated from it.

How do you open a second Etsy shop?

Sign out, register a new Etsy account with a different email address, then open the shop on that new account. Etsy's steps, from the second-shop article:

  1. On Etsy.com, choose Your account.
  2. Select Sign out.
  3. Select Sign in.
  4. Choose Register.
  5. Enter an email address not associated with another Etsy shop, enter your name and create a password. Select Register.
  6. Follow the steps to open your shop.
  7. Add all your shops to the Public Profile section of each account.

Two practical notes. Etsy's account security article says "2 factor authentication is required when you open a new shop on Etsy", so have your phone or authenticator app ready. And Etsy can't merge shops later: "we don't have a way to move shop info from one account to another or combine shops on one account." Decide on the split before you build up listings and reviews.

Can two Etsy shops share an email, card, bank account or tax ID?

Some details must be different and some must be the same. This table is taken from Etsy's second-shop article and its security article:

Detail Can shops share it? What Etsy says
Email address No You'll need "a new account with another email address"
Credit card for seller registration Yes "you can use the same credit card for seller registration"
Bank account Yes, with Etsy Payments Same bank account "if you sign up for Etsy Payments"
Taxpayer ID and address Must match "You must use the same taxpayer ID and address when applicable"
2FA phone or authenticator app Yes "You can use the same phone number or authenticator app for verifying multiple accounts that you own"

The taxpayer ID line is the one people miss. Running a second shop is not a reason to enter different identity or address details. If both shops are yours, the business details behind them are yours too, and Etsy expects them to match.

Should you open a second shop or use shop sections?

Open a second shop when the new products are a different brand. Etsy's own advice: "If you want to introduce a new line of products that is very different from your existing brand, a second shop may be useful." Otherwise, it suggests shop sections to organize different types of products in one shop.

A second shop doubles some work: two sets of shop policies, two inboxes, two About sections, two sets of listing fees and two places to check every morning. If you sell candles and want to add candle-making kits, sections are probably enough. If you sell wedding stationery and want to start a vintage clothing shop, those are two audiences and two brands.

How do you switch between Etsy shops without signing out?

Use a separate browser, or a separate browser profile, for each shop. Etsy says so itself: "Most browsers won't allow you to be signed in to multiple Etsy accounts at one time. For this reason, it may help to use different browsers for each account. That way you don't have to keep signing out and signing back in."

Etsy also warns that "If you have trouble finding your order or sales history in your account, you might be signed in to the wrong account", which is the most common confusion with multiple shops. A dedicated browser per shop solves it, because each one stays signed in to one shop only.

Two or three shops fit in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Past that, or once helpers are involved, a browser profile manager is tidier. In Multime, each profile is its own Chromium-based browser with its own cookies, storage and extensions, and it reopens the tabs it had open last time. A profile called "Fernhill Silver" opens straight to that shop's Shop Manager; "Fernhill Vintage" opens to the other one. Profiles can be grouped, tagged and given remarks, so the shop's notes sit next to its login.

How can helpers get access to your Etsy shop?

Use Etsy's shared access. It lets you invite up to 5 team members, who sign in with their own Etsy accounts, so you never hand over your password. Etsy describes it in Shared Access for Etsy Shop Owners and Shared Access for Etsy Team Members.

To invite someone: go to Shop Manager, choose Settings, select Shared access, select Invite team member, and enter their email. This works on Etsy.com only, not in the Etsy Seller app, and invitations expire after 7 days.

What team members can and can't do, per Etsy:

Team members can Team members can't
Manage orders, add tracking, buy shipping labels, mark orders shipped Cancel or refund orders
Create, edit and publish listings Delete or deactivate listings
View and reply to buyer messages See bank details, earnings or anything in the finances tab
See marketing, stats, settings, apps or performance
Invite, manage or remove other team members

Everyone gets the same access level. Team members must be at least 18 and must turn on two-factor authentication before they can accept. You can download a CSV of their message, order and listing activity from the shared access page, and remove access at any time. Etsy is clear that "The shop owner is responsible for activity in their shop, including actions taken by team members."

Helpers who work for more than one of your shops

A team member needs a separate Etsy account, with a different email, for each shop they help with. Etsy explains that "an Etsy account can only be associated with one shop at a time, including draft shops." An assistant who packs orders for three shops therefore has three Etsy accounts, and runs into the same signing-in-and-out problem you do. One browser profile per shop, per helper, keeps those accounts apart.

List helpers in your About section

Separately from shared access, Etsy asks you to "List all of the people involved in your shop, including yourself as the owner, in your About section", with their roles (How to Display Team Members in your Shop About Section). The same article warns: "Etsy does not recommend sharing passwords with anyone. If you share your login information with freelance assistants, you do so at your own risk."

Now that shared access exists, there is little reason to share the owner login for Etsy itself. Keep finances, refunds and settings with the owner, as Etsy designed it.

How do you keep shop logins, cookies and payment details organized?

Give each shop one place for its login, its 2FA, its saved session and its notes, and never mix them. Etsy's own advice is to "Keep track of what email and password you use for each account and shop."

Here is one way to set up a profile per shop:

Item Shop "Fernhill Silver" Shop "Fernhill Vintage"
Etsy email silver@yourdomain.com vintage@yourdomain.com
Saved login Etsy, shop email inbox, shipping tool Etsy, shop email inbox
2FA Authenticator secret stored with the login Same authenticator app, separate entry
Cookies Saved when the profile closes Saved when the profile closes
Start tabs Shop Manager, Orders, Messages Shop Manager, Listings
Remarks Which card (last 4 digits) and bank account are on file; tax ID matches main shop Same

Multime stores saved logins per profile (platform, username, password and 2FA secret) and shows live 2FA codes. They are encrypted with AES-256-GCM in a local database on your computer, with the key protected by macOS Keychain or Windows DPAPI. Cookies are saved when a profile closes and can be imported or exported in JSON or Netscape format, as described on the cookies page. It doesn't store payment cards; keep those in Etsy's own payment settings and write only a short note in the profile's remarks.

For tools around the shop that have no per-person login, such as a shared shop inbox or a supplier portal, Multime's team workspace lets a helper open a signed-in profile without seeing the saved password or 2FA secret, unless you grant the "See account passwords and 2FA keys" permission. Every action is logged. One limit to know: while a helper has a profile open, their computer holds that session. The team workspace is part of the Team and Agency plans. If you also sell elsewhere, the same pattern is described for ecommerce sellers and Amazon sellers.

What happens if one of your Etsy shops is suspended?

Resolve it with Etsy; don't open a replacement. Etsy's article How to Reinstate Your Suspended Account says many temporary suspensions are for things you can fix yourself, such as an overdue bill, a missing taxpayer ID or unfinished bank verification, and that you'll usually get an email explaining what to do.

For a permanent suspension, Etsy's appeal article says you have 6 months from the suspension to appeal, through the Appeals Center, after resolving the issues that led to it. A decision can take up to two weeks, and if the appeal fails, "This decision is final."

Remember Section 3d of the Seller Policy: Etsy may also act on accounts it determines are related. Opening a new shop to keep selling during or after a suspension is what the policy calls circumventing it. Our acceptable use policy forbids using Multime for that too.

Which mistakes cause trouble with multiple Etsy shops?

Most problems come from treating separate shops as hidden shops. These are the ones to avoid:

  • Not listing your shops. Etsy requires every shop in the Public Profile of each account.
  • Duplicate shops. Same products, same photos, second storefront: that is what Section 1c forbids.
  • Shops that boost each other. Buying, favoriting or reviewing between your own shops is shilling.
  • Different identity details. Etsy expects the same taxpayer ID and address where applicable, not a new name or address per shop.
  • Buying or transferring a shop. Etsy says you can't transfer an Etsy account, and an account may be suspended if Etsy believes a transfer happened. A new owner opens a new account and shop.
  • Sharing the owner password. Use shared access instead.
  • A new shop after a suspension. Appeal instead.

A browser profile per shop keeps your sessions and logins separate. It doesn't change what Etsy allows, and Etsy's rules apply to every shop you run.

Frequently asked questions

Is it allowed to have multiple Etsy shops?

Yes. Etsy's Help Center says "You're welcome to run multiple shops at once on Etsy." Each shop needs its own account and email, you must list all your shops in the Public Profile of each account, and every account must follow the Seller Policy.

How many Etsy shops can one person have?

Etsy's help articles don't state a maximum number of shops per seller, so we don't give one. Each account holds one shop, and each shop needs its own account and email address.

Can I use the same bank account for two Etsy shops?

Yes. Etsy says you can use the same credit card for seller registration and the same bank account if you sign up for Etsy Payments. You must use the same taxpayer ID and address when applicable.

Can I be signed in to two Etsy shops at once?

Not in the same browser, usually. Etsy says most browsers won't allow it and suggests using different browsers for each account. A separate browser profile per shop works the same way.

How do I give an assistant access to my Etsy shop?

Use shared access: Shop Manager, Settings, Shared access, Invite team member. You can invite up to 5 people, who sign in with their own Etsy accounts and 2FA. They can handle orders, listings and messages but not refunds, finances or settings.

Can a team member help with more than one of my shops?

Yes, but they need a separate Etsy account, with a different email address, for each shop. Etsy says an account can only be associated with one shop at a time, including draft shops.

Can I merge two Etsy shops later?

No. Etsy says it doesn't have a way to move shop info from one account to another or combine shops on one account. Decide between a second shop and shop sections early.

My Etsy shop was suspended. Can I open a new one?

No. Follow Etsy's reinstatement steps or appeal within 6 months. The Seller Policy forbids duplicate shops made to circumvent its policies, and Etsy may suspend accounts it determines are related to yours.
