What the synchronizer does
Sometimes you need to do the same thing in several profiles at once: check how a page looks in six profiles with different languages, fill in the same internal form for each client account, or open the same settings screen in every window. Doing it profile by profile is slow and easy to get wrong.
Multime's window synchronizer lets you do it once. You pick one open profile as the main window (Multime calls it the master) and tick the others as followers. While sync is running, what you do in the main window is repeated in each follower window. Each follower is still its own profile, with its own cookies, proxy and fingerprint settings.
How to start
- Open the profiles. Open two or more profiles on your computer. The Synchronizer page lists the open ones, and you can filter by group.
- Choose the main window. Pick the profile you'll work in. Multime marks it with a color in its lists and in the console.
- Tick the followers. Select the windows that should copy the main one.
- Start sync. Click Start, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Cmd+Shift+S on a Mac.
- Work in the main window. Click, scroll and type as usual. Stop with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+D.
A small console window stays on top of your other windows while you sync, with the controls described below. You can set it to hide itself while sync runs.
What gets mirrored
Each kind of input can be switched on or off in the synchronizer settings.
| Input | What followers copy |
|---|---|
| Keyboard | Typing, shortcuts and pasted text |
| Mouse clicks | Clicks, double clicks and dragging |
| Scrolling | Mouse wheel and trackpad |
| Mouse movement | Hovering, so menus and tooltips open in the followers too |
Positions are scaled to each follower's window size, so a click on a button in the main window lands on the same spot in a smaller or larger follower. When you type an address in the main window's address bar, followers go to the same address. Back, forward and reload are mirrored too.
Human-like delays
By default, followers act right away. You can turn on random delays before each key press and each click, within a range you set, so followers don't act in perfect lockstep.
Arranging windows
With ten windows open, finding the right one is half the work. The console arranges them for you on the screen you choose.
| Layout | What it does |
|---|---|
| Grid | Tiles the windows edge to edge. Set the number of columns, or let Multime pick, and the gap between windows. |
| Overlap | Cascades windows diagonally, each a step down and to the right of the last. |
| Uniform | Gives every window the same width and height and keeps each where it is. |
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z arranges the windows from the keyboard.
Text tools
Typing the same text into every window isn't always what you want. The text tools send text to whichever field has the cursor in each window:
- Same text in every window.
- A random number per window, between a minimum and a maximum, with the number of decimals you choose.
- Different lines per window from a list you paste: in order (window 1 gets line 1), shuffled, or a specific line for each profile.
- Clear the field, or paste the clipboard.
Turn on "Type like a person" to type key by key with the typing delay from Settings instead of pasting.
Click into the right field in each window first; text goes where the cursor is.
Tab tools
- Make every follower open the same tabs as the main window.
- Close other tabs, the current tab or blank tabs in every window.
- Open a list of URLs in every window, with the first one in the current tab if you like.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Action | Windows | Mac |
|---|---|---|
| Start sync | Ctrl+Shift+S | Cmd+Shift+S |
| Stop sync | Ctrl+Shift+D | Cmd+Shift+D |
| Restart sync | Ctrl+Shift+R | Cmd+Shift+R |
| Show or hide the console | Ctrl+Shift+E | Cmd+Shift+E |
| Arrange windows | Ctrl+Shift+Z | Cmd+Shift+Z |
These shortcuts work from any app, so Multime turns them on only while sync is running. Start works whenever two or more profiles are open. You can change each shortcut.
Examples
Checking a page in six languages. A marketer opens six profiles with proxies in six countries, arranges them in a 3-by-2 grid, and browses the client's site once in the main window. Each follower loads the page through its own proxy, with its own time zone and language, so she can compare the six versions side by side.
Updating details for ten client accounts. An agency needs to change the contact email on ten client profiles. The VA arranges the windows, opens the settings page in all of them with the tab tools, clicks into the email field, and uses "Different lines" to give each window the right address from a pasted list, in order.
Limits
- Keep followers visible. A follower window that is fully covered or minimized stops scrolling and reacting to hover until you show it again. Keep every follower at least partly on screen; the grid layout does this for you.
- Pages must match. Mirroring works best when every window shows the same page with the same layout. If a follower shows a pop-up or a different page, its clicks land in a different place. Check the followers as you go.
- This computer only. The synchronizer works with profiles open on the computer you're using.
- Teams. VAs need the "Use the synchronizer" permission.
- Platform rules. Many platforms restrict coordinated or repeated actions across accounts. Use the synchronizer for work the platform allows, and check its rules first.
For work that should run without you, such as a daily report across 40 profiles, an automation flow is a better fit than the synchronizer.
